Prawns are well known sea food for all ages of people. A very few people reluctant to taste sea foods as they are averse of taking the prevalent smell present in almost every sea food. No matter, most of us are after big luscious Prawns which are sweet and delectable to our palates. Prawn Malai curry recipe is a huge craze among Bengali foodies as the coconuts used in this particularly recipe bring spicy yet sweet flavor. The oil secretion from coconut during the time of cooking, makes this recipe even more happening among north Indian cooking.
A glam touch of Giant tiger Prawn along with mighty coconut creates wonderful aroma throughout this Prawn Malai curry recipe. Hot spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and cloves are integral part of this dish and it can not go wrong if tried with care and love!
- 20 pieces of Giant Tiger Prawns
- 1 big coconut cut into small pieces
- 2 big onions
- 2 tbsp of ginger
- 9 cloves of garlic
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4-5 green cardamoms
- 2-3 cloves
- 2 tbsp of red chili powder
- 1 tsp of turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- small bunch of coriander leaves for garnishing
- 10 - 12 tbsp of mustard oil / 8 -9 cubes of amul butter
- 4-5 green chilies each cut into halves
- 3 tsp of cumin seeds
- 8-9 tsp of sugar
De vein the prawns and marinade with salt and turmeric. Then fry them in hot oil. Do not deep fry because sea food goes hard while deep frying; light brown frying is better option to retain soft and real touch of pawn's authentic flavors.
Put in sliced onions on the same oil and fry them until turns light brown.
In a mixer grinder , make a paste of cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, green chilies, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.
Add the above paste into the oil where onions were frying. Toss everything well.
Take another mixer grinder and put coconut pieces into it along with water. Give it a nice mix and you will see white creamy mixture of coconut flakes along with white coconut milk is coming out together.
Time to add this coconut mixture into the Kadai where other ingredients have already put in to fry and leave oil on top.
Sprinkle salt , sugar, red chili and turmeric powder. Stir everything well. Add fried prawns on top and add 2 cups of water and there is already watery milk of coconut in the kadai.
Put the lid on for next 10 minutes and you are ready to serve Prawn Malai Curry recipe garnishing with coriander leaves on top.
